Presidential Envoy on Special Programs Adut Salva Kiir met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa during a courtesy call to his office in Pretoria.
According to her office, the meeting was part of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, advancing regional peace efforts, and deepening strategic partnerships between South Sudan and South Africa.
President Ramaphosa welcomed Envoy Adut and reaffirmed South Africa’s continued support for South Sudan’s peace consolidation and long-term development.
Adut expressed appreciation for South Africa’s partnership and reiterated Juba’s commitment to working closely with Pretoria on shared priorities.
She also delivered a message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit to President Ramaphosa.
Envoy Adut, who travelled to the southern African nation, has held a series of meetings with South African government officials and leaders of the ruling African National Congress party.
South Sudan and South Africa established diplomatic relations in 2011 following South Sudan’s independence. In 2019, the two countries signed an oil exploration agreement worth about $1 billion, allowing South Africa to explore and produce oil in South Sudan.
