JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) — The National Bureau of Standards (NBS) has issued a nationwide call for South Sudanese companies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and entrepreneurs to actively participate in the upcoming third edition of the East African Community (EAC) Regional Quality Awards in 2026.
Gloria Nyoka, the Executive Director of the NBS, appealed for the Chamber Quality Awards 2025, emphasizing that rigorous quality standards are essential for national development and economic growth.
“Quality remains the cornerstone of national development. It strengthens consumer trust, supports public health, enhances market competitiveness, and positions our products to access regional and international markets.” — Gloria Nyoka, Executive Director, NBS
Ms Gloria highlighted the recent success of a local company as a powerful example of what South Sudanese businesses can achieve on the regional stage.
She said during the EAC Regional Quality Awards 2025, South Sudan’s national champion, Urban South Group, represented the country in the SME Product of the Year category and achieved the position of first runner-up in the Jua Kali of East Africa Competition held in Kenya.
“This remarkable accomplishment placed our country on the regional stage and brought honor and recognition to our industries,” Nyoka stated.
As the mandated body to develop standards, promote quality, and facilitate trade, the NBS annually hosts the National Quality Awards as part of its obligation under the EAC framework.
Ms Gloria announced that the call for applications for the 2026 National Quality Awards will be advertised soon, and she urged companies to apply early to allow adequate time for assessment.
She added that the assessment teams, supported by South Sudanese experts, will visit and evaluate participating companies based on established quality criteria.
Companies that excel at the national level will earn the chance to represent South Sudan at the regional EAC competition.
Gloria affirmed that the NBS remains committed to supporting enterprises of all sizes through standard development, training, certification, and technical guidance, noting that the South Sudan Quality Mark acts as a “passport” for local products to enter wider markets.
