The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has announced a temporary suspension of the container release fee, following consultations with the Clearing Agents Association and the Kenya International Freight Forwarders and Warehousing Association.
The One-Time Payment (OTP) fee is charged on containers released at ports and was previously set at USD $5,000 before being reduced to USD $3,550.
In a statement dated December 8th, seen by Eye Radio, the SSRA said that despite the reduction, traders continued to report financial difficulties, prompting further government action.
“In response to the ongoing challenges faced by traders, clearing agents, and freight forwarders, the government has decided to temporarily suspend the container release OTP fee,” read in part the statement said by William Anyuol Kuol, the Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority.
“This suspension will remain in effect until a full sensitization and consultation process with all stakeholders is completed, ensuring that the business community is fully informed and prepared before the fee is reintroduced,” he added.
The SSRA urged all authorities, clearing agents, freight forwarders, and traders to comply with the directive, stressing the government’s commitment to a transparent and enabling trading environment.
