THE Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) has announced the recruitment of 400 new correctional recruits, inviting qualified Namibians between the ages of 19 and 35 to apply for positions at correctional institutions across the country. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security says the new intake will undergo nine months of basic training, with successful candidates to be appointed as Correctional Officer I. The announcement includes detailed requirements for both new applicants and former correctional officers seeking reinstatement.
According to the NCS, applicants must hold a Grade 12 NSSCO/H certificate, a Grade 11 NSSCO certificate under the new curriculum, or an equivalent qualification with at least 25 points in six subjects, including a minimum E symbol in English. Candidates must be Namibian citizens with no criminal record or pending Schedule 1 cases, and must be willing to undergo fingerprinting, medical examinations, written and physical tests, and security vetting. Visible tattoos that appear when wearing the correctional uniform are not permitted, and candidates must be physically and mentally fit for duty. Successful applicants must be ready to work at any correctional institution in Namibia and are required to obtain a certificate of conduct before beginning basic training.
Former correctional officers are also invited to apply, provided they have a clean service record, attach a motivation letter and proof of previous basic training, and meet the age limit of 45. They must be prepared to re-enter the service at the rank of Correctional Officer I, regardless of any former rank.
Key responsibilities for the role include monitoring offender movements, conducting head counts, overseeing behaviour within correctional facilities, inspecting security infrastructure, recording offender information, searching offenders and vehicles, escorting inmates, responding to emergencies, and maintaining accurate written reports. Officers are also expected to observe and report behavioural changes among offenders, enforce rules, and ensure the safety and order of their assigned units.
The NCS said that candidates must demonstrate maturity, strong communication skills, interpersonal competence, basic computer literacy and the ability to successfully complete all stages of the recruitment process.
Recruits will undergo training at the Lucius S. Mahoto Correctional Service Training College in Omaruru. Appointments will depend on positive outcomes from criminal record checks, qualification verification, medical fitness assessments and security vetting.
Applicants must submit completed application forms (Forms 156043 and 156094, available at all government offices), along with a detailed CV, certified copies of qualifications, a Namibian ID, NQA evaluation letters where applicable, and all other supporting documents. Constituency and region details must appear on the first page of the application form.
Applications may be delivered to the nearest correctional facility, or in Windhoek, to the Windhoek Correctional Facility or the NCS National Headquarters at Brendan Simbwaye Square. Mailed applications should be addressed to the Commissioner-General, Namibian Correctional Service, Private Bag 13281, Windhoek, attention: Human Resource Management. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and no submitted documents will be returned.
The application period opens on 5 December 2025 and closes on 5 January 2026. Enquiries may be directed to the NCS Human Resource Office at 081 954 6068, 6069, 6031, 6026 or 6043.
