JUBA, A member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly condemned what he described as two “provocative” attacks on Wunkur County, saying the violence has undermined ongoing efforts to implement the revitalized peace agreement, Friday.
Hon. Santino Kutpul Dau, the TNLA representative for the Panrieng Constituency, said the reported assaults. attributed to forces aligned with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition have caused fear among civilians and disrupted local stability. He called on all parties to uphold the peace protocols outlined in the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan.
Dau extended condolences to families of those killed, injured or displaced, and urged local authorities, the South Sudan People’s Defense Force and the Ruweng Administrative Area government to support relief and recovery efforts. He added that the county may request assistance from humanitarian agencies if civilian needs increase.
The lawmaker said he will work with the Wunkur County commissioner and the RAA chief administrator to seek additional security support from the SSPDF, including measures to protect civilians and prevent further attacks.
Dau also urged the national government and Parliament to strengthen security protocols, assess vulnerabilities and develop steps to prevent escalation in Wunkur and other areas where clashes have been reported.
He called for restraint from communities and emphasized the need for dialogue and adherence to the rule of law as the country continues its transition toward peace.
