Police in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga, have rearrested one of the six suspects who escaped from the Lydenburg police station on Saturday morning.
Clayton Flank, 37, was rearrested after police received a tip-off.
“He was arrested near a sports ground in Kellisville at Lydenburg at around 04:00,” police said in a statement.
Flank will be charged with escape from lawful custody and is expected to appear in the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police discovered that Flank, Fana Fenyane, Isaac Malope, Sergio Mandoza, Francisco Vasco Maganja and France Malatjie had escaped when officers noticed a leaking water pipe outside one of the holding cells. Upon further inspection, they discovered a hole in the wall.

Fenyane, Malope, Mandoza, Vasco Maganja and Malatjie are still on the run.
The suspects face various charges including rape, murder and malicious damage to property.
