THE Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS) will begin offering full-day counter services at its Windhoek Head Office from 1 December 2025, allowing the public access to services throughout the day, including during lunchtime.
The ministry said the change forms part of its efforts to strengthen citizen-centred service delivery. It added that details on when the extended hours will be rolled out to regional offices will be announced in due course.
MHAISS also appealed for public patience, noting that increased turnout at certain times may result in waiting periods.
The ministry further urged parents and guardians to register newborn babies within 12 months of birth. To improve timely birth registration, staff have been stationed at 24 state hospitals to issue birth certificates immediately after birth. Additionally, 126 state and private hospitals now use the Electronic Birth Notification System, enabling nurses to submit instant birth notifications to ensure accurate and prompt civil registration.
