Former Super Eagles star Victor Ikpeba has criticised Alex Iwobi over a poor pass that led to DR Congo’s equaliser in the 2026 World Cup qualifier play-off on Sunday.
Nigeria took the lead inside the fourth minute through Frank Onyeka but allowed the Congolese to equalise after half an hour, following Wilfred Ndidi’s failure to clear the ball after the Leopards launched a counter-attack resulting from Iwobi’s poor pass.
Ikpeba slammed Iwobi for failing to track back after losing the ball in the middle of the field.
Speaking on Super Sports, Ikpeba said, “So casual on the ball and then look at him just jogging back. You know, you were expecting him to sprint back if you could recover but he didn’t do that. That is what we say in this part of the world, ‘you dey play as if you dey for your parlour.
“When you have a player who’s not ready to run, Iwobi is not ready to suffer. that is what will be. It has just showed in that situation.”
At the time of filing the story, the match was still 1-1 and in the first period of extra time.
