
The Imo State Police Command under the watch of CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into a viral video showing a woman, identified as Mrs Agu Ndididamaka, 55 years old, from Umuakaliukwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, Emekuku, Owerri North LGA, being assaulted by a group of men for helping police investigation in the community.
In a statement made available to journalists in Owerri, the spokesperson of the Command, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed that acting on the directive, the X-Squad Unit has commenced action to identify, arrest, and bring all individuals involved in the incident it described as appalling act to justice without delay.
Okoye hinted that preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was attacked by six men identified as Osuji Chiazor, Agu Azubike, Njoku Onyedikachi, Njoku Eugene, Njoku Dikachi, Njoku Emmanuel, and Iwuala Chukwuma.
Okoye added that the assault was allegedly carried out because the woman cooperated with police officers who had earlier visited the community for investigative purposes.
He stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects, after which they will be charged to court.
The Command’s spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police has strongly condemned the act, describing it as barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable.
“He warned that any form of jungle justice or intimidation of citizens who lawfully assist the police will not be tolerated under any circumstance,” the statement said.
