The South Sudanese Community in Egypt has condemned the alleged assault and exploitation of two South Sudanese women domestic workers by a Sudanese businesswoman and her accomplices.
According to the community, the women, who worked for the Sudanese businesswoman, were reportedly kept against their will, beaten, threatened, and forced to take nude photographs.
They were also allegedly subjected to electric shocks.
In a statement seen by Eye Radio, the community said the Sudanese businesswoman, identified as Mayada, had no right to detain anyone and acted without notifying Egyptian authorities.
Santino Akot Deng Bol, Head of the South Sudanese Community in Cairo, called on authorities to ensure justice.
“We, as a community, raise our voices to the relevant authorities to ensure justice and to set an example for anyone who dares to defy the law in the Arab Republic of Egypt, a state governed by the rule of law. No one is above the law; if they err, they will face the consequences,” he said.
The statement added that the two women reportedly escaped and sought protection at the South Sudanese Embassy in Cairo.
The embassy has not issued any public comment on the incident.
The community leader is calling for the arrest and prosecution of Mayada and her accomplices and urged international human rights groups to monitor the case closely.
