THREE people died and several others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the B1 road near Otjiwarongo, while a separate crash near Aus claimed the life of another motorist. Police investigations in both incidents are ongoing.
According to the police incident report, the Otjiwarongo crash occurred on Friday, at around 13:00 on the B1 road, approximately 33 km towards Okahandja. It is alleged that the driver of a Mercedes-Benz swerved into oncoming traffic due to slippery road conditions, resulting in a head-on collision with an Isuzu double cab. A Toyota Corolla travelling behind the Isuzu then collided with the Mercedes as well.
Three people—identified as Christina Maria Prinsloo (57), a South African national; Chirise Steyen (80), a Namibian pensioner; and Jana Grove (21), a Namibian female—died in the crash. A 20-year-old South African female sustained serious injuries. The next of kin of the deceased have been informed.
In a separate incident, one person died in a crash on the C13 gravel road near Aus on Saturday, at around 15:35. Police report that a tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which overturned and came to rest on its side. Johannes Jager, a 41-year-old Namibian male, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. There were five occupants in the vehicle, including the driver.
