Mungatana: With Ruto and Raila United, It Will Be Two Terms

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has thrown his weight behind the new political alliance between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Mungatana said the region fully backs the unity deal and pledged overwhelming support for President Ruto in the next election.
“In the last election, Raila got 54, and we got 44 per cent that is a total of 94 per cent. Now with Ruto and Raila in one camp, we say the 99 per cent will go to our president, and we dare say it will be two terms,” he stated.
Mungatana at the same time continued his criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of being a divisive leader during his time in office.
Speaking at an empowerment forum in Hola, Tana River, on Wednesday, June 2, 2025, Mungatana praised Gachagua’s successor, describing him as a deputy president who truly represents all Kenyans.
“Sasa hapa sisi tumeshika Kindiki kwa sababu yeye ni jirani mwema,” he said. (We are now standing with Kindiki because he is a good neighbour)
“Tena ni naibu wa rais wa kisawasawa. Yule wa zamani alikuwa ni aibu wa rais. Maanake yeye alikuwa akisimama anasema eti pwani haiko kwa mahesabu yake. Mahesabu yalikuwa shares, ni watu wa kwake pekee.”
(He(Kindiki) is a proper deputy president. The former one was an embarrassment to the presidency. Every time he stood to speak, he would say the Coast region doesn’t count in his calculations. And those calculations, by the way, were about shares only meant for his people)
The former Garsen MP reiterated that they impeached Gachagua for tribalism.
“It is the reason why we said we will control him,(Mwengi) Mutuse came up with a motion that got him impeached. We want to build a Kenya that is united, but he (Wamunyoro) wanted to chain us with chains of tribalism. It is why we are now united and heading in one direction as coastal leaders,” he said.
